Good study habits don't just happen. Depending upon the child, parents may have to assign set times in the evening or on the weekend for homework. Sometimes parents allow playtime first after getting home from school. That's fine, but be sure that it doesn't get too late for the child. Obviously, a tired child doesn't think or remember as clearly as an alert child.
When your child has tests especially in science or social studies they will need to review the materials. Our brains are not computers. Memories need to be refreshed with the knowledge by rereading the book and looking over the study guide. Make the studying fun, by asking your child questions, making flash cards or have discussions about the main ideas of the material. You will be surprised how studying pays off for your child in good grades!
